Joint Collagen and Its Benefits
Prepared by: Nutritionist Tian Hui
Nourishing your joints and maintaining joint health may be one of the most important things to do. With increasing age, our joints become more susceptible to joint pain and various joint conditions due to wear and tear. Some common joint conditions include inflammation, swelling, pain, stiffness and degeneration of cartilage which may lead to damaging of joints overtime. Thus, it is of no surprise that people are becoming increasingly concerned about joint health. Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM are not unfamiliar terms when it comes to joint support. But have we left the hidden gem behind – Collagen?
Collagen is a type of protein naturally found in cartilage, bone, and connective tissues. In fact, we have more collagen in our bodies than any other type of protein. There are at least 16 types of collagen, but the most abundant collagen in the body consists of Types I, II and III. Type I and Type III are the major collagen in most tissues such as skin, blood vessels and internal organs. Type II is the major collagen found in cartilage.1
So, what exactly does collagen do for the joints?
Collagen supplements such as Joint Collagen may help support joint comfort and mobility. Joint Collagen contains Biocell Collagen® and Vitamin D3. Biocell Collagen® is a clinically studied branded ingredient composed of Hydrolysed Collagen Type II, Chondroitin Sulfate and Hyaluronic Acid that work synergistically to promote joint comfort and mobility, stimulate cartilage renewal and support the formation and regeneration of joint collagen.2 Hydrolysed Collagen, also known as Collagen Hydrolysate, is rich in amino acids and better absorbed by the body – accumulates in the cartilage to help support collagen biosynthesis.3 Hyaluronic acid is a component that is particularly abundant in the synovial fluid and acts as a lubricant for joint movements.4 Chondroitin Sulfate has been shown to reduce pain and support mobility of the joints.5 In summary, BioCell Collagen® has a comprehensive approach to benefit joint health, targeting cartilage, tendons, ligaments and the synovial fluid.
In addition to the joint benefits, collagen also supports the enhancement of skin and nails health.6 BioCell Collagen® has been clinically shown to reduce facial lines, improve skin elasticity and increase skin collagen.2
